The ADVERB

Adverb : An adverb is a word which modifies the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
Eg: He walks slowly, It is a very sweet apply, Sonia speaks quite clearly.


Adverb of Time : The adverb answers the question “when”

Eg: He got up early (answer for question when he got up), She came late (answer for question when she came)
(Some adverbs : now, then ago, early, before, soon, yet)

Adverb of manner :The adverb answers the question ‘how’ or in ‘what manner’

Eg: Russell fought bravely (how Russell fought), Sonia behave wisely(how Sonia behaved)

(Some manner adverbs : clearly, carefully, quickly, badly, slowly, sadly, safely, secretly, frankly, openly, well)

Adverb of Place :The adverb answers the question ’where’

Eg: Please wait here (Where should I wait), I don’t go there(Where you don’t go), The flag went up(Where the flag went)

(Some Place adverbs: here, there, everywhere, nowhere, in, out, up)

Adverb of Frequency : The adverb answers the question ‘how often’.

Eg : Peter is always late(how often peter is late),  She seldom goes to pictures(how often she go to pictures).
(Some Frequency adverbs : frequently, never, rarely, often, sometimes, twice, thrice, usually, regularly,ever)

Adverb of duration : The adverb answers the question how long or since when.

Eg: She has been waiting since morning (Since when she has been waiting?), He stayed long(How long he stayed?)
(Some duration adverbs : for a year, from March 15, till 5 o’clock)

Adverb of affirmation and negative : The adverb gives answer to yes or no questions

Eg: She is not active, He will surely help us
(Some affirmation and negative adverbs : No hardly, surely, certainly, vever)

Interrogative adverb :The adverb asks question

Eg When did he go there, How did you solve the problem.

(Some question ask adverbs : How, where, when, why)
