Verb: A verb is a word that says something
about a person or thing
Eg: She is a doctor, He has a car,
Other Ex: The boys play in the evening, They are students, The mechanic repaired the car.
‘be’ verb : It says something about the subject.
It takes a complement to complete the
sentence.
Eg: Gopal is a lawyer (is : be verb
; a lawyer : complement), They are clerks (are: be verb; clerks : complement)
List of ‘be’ verbs: is, am, are,
was, were.
Transitive verb : When the action passes over from the
subject to the object, the verb is transitive.
Eg: He cut the tree (cut:transitive
verb; tree: objective), She killed a rat(killed : transitive verb;
rat:objective)
List of Transitive verbs: read,
write, eat, kill, repair.
Intransitive verb : When the action does not pass over
to anything else, the verb is intransitive verb.
Eg: He sits, They stand.
List of Intransitive verb: fly, walk
come, go boark, cry.
Auxiliary verb :An auxiliary verb is a helping verb.
It show tense and voice. It is used with a main verb. It is not used
independently.
Eg: She has gone out(has: auxiliary
verb; gone:main verb), they have met us(have: auxiliary verb;met(main verb)
List of Auxiliary verbs: is, am,
are, was, were, do, does, did, have, has, had, will, would, shell, should, can,
could, many, might, must, dare, need, ought, used to.
